Ham Yard Hotel Wedding photography in the heart of Soho, London — if you are planning your wedding at Ham Yard Hotel, this guide covers everything you need to know about one of the most distinctive and characterful wedding venues in the city. I have had the privilege of photographing a wedding here and it is a venue that stays with you long after the day is over.
What Makes Ham Yard Hotel So Special
Ham Yard Hotel is a stunning boutique hotel in the heart of Soho, part of the celebrated Firmdale Hotels group and designed throughout by Kit Kemp. Moreover, unlike many London hotel venues that offer a single neutral room, Ham Yard gives couples access to a whole collection of individually designed spaces — each one full of personality, texture and colour. The hotel is built around a quiet tree-filled courtyard, which creates a surprising sense of calm in the middle of one of London’s most vibrant neighbourhoods. With 91 individually designed bedrooms on site, guests can stay the night and the celebration never has to end.
The Wedding Spaces at Ham Yard Hotel
Ham Yard Hotel has several spaces that work beautifully for weddings of different sizes, from intimate celebrations to larger gatherings of up to 300 guests. Additionally, the Windmill Room — designed by Kit Kemp — is perfect for private dinners of up to 60 guests, while the Sherwood and Archer rooms can be combined via interconnecting doors to create a flexible event space for larger receptions. The hotel also has a rooftop terrace for drinks receptions, a 190-seat screening room ideal for speeches, and one of London’s most unique evening spaces — a 1950s-style Croc Bowling Alley with its own bar and dancefloor. The Archer Room is licensed for civil ceremonies and civil partnerships.
Photography at Ham Yard Hotel — Why It Is a Photographer’s Dream
As a London wedding photographer, what I love most about Ham Yard Hotel is the sheer variety it offers for photography. Furthermore, Kit Kemp’s interiors are rich with colour, pattern and art — every corner has something interesting happening, and that translates into photographs that feel completely alive. The courtyard is particularly beautiful for natural light portraits, offering a sheltered green space that feels nothing like a typical hotel exterior. The rooftop terrace gives you London’s rooftops as a backdrop during golden hour, and the bowling alley produces some of the most joyful and unexpected evening images I have ever taken.
A Real Wedding at Ham Yard Hotel
I had the joy of photographing Aliza and Brad’s wedding at Ham Yard Hotel — a beautiful celebration in the heart of Soho, full of warmth, emotion and some genuinely unforgettable moments. The venue’s spaces worked perfectly for the day, moving naturally from ceremony to reception to dancing. You can see the full gallery from their wedding day here.
