Getting Married at York House Twickenham is one of the most beautiful choices a couple can make for a London wedding. This stunning Grade II listed 17th-century mansion sits on the banks of the River Thames in the heart of Twickenham, surrounded by extraordinary Italian gardens and centuries of history. I had the privilege of photographing a wedding here and it is a venue that genuinely takes your breath away.
What Makes York House So Special
York House dates back to the 1630s and has been beautifully renovated to combine its original historic character with the needs of a modern wedding venue. Moreover, the setting is completely unique — the Italian gardens, originally commissioned by Sir Ratan Tata in the early 1900s, feature a remarkable series of classical statues and lead directly down to the banks of the Thames. There is simply nowhere else in London quite like it for wedding photography.
The Wedding Spaces
York House is licensed for civil ceremonies and offers several beautifully appointed rooms for couples to choose from. Additionally, the Clarendon Hall is the largest space, with a stage and capacity for up to 250 guests for a ceremony and 150 for a seated wedding breakfast. The Salon is a more intimate option, featuring a beautiful chandelier and elegant furnishings, and can host ceremonies for up to 70 guests or a seated meal for 60. The Hyde Room works well for smaller ceremonies of up to 70 guests or as a drinks and canapés space following the ceremony. The Victorian Winter Garden, with its beautiful conservatory overlooking the park, and the Terrace Room with direct garden access, both offer further options for intimate celebrations.
Why Photographers Love This Venue
As a London wedding photographer, York House is one of my absolute favourite venues to work in. Furthermore, the combination of the historic interiors, the Italian gardens and that Thames-side light creates an extraordinary variety of backdrops within a single venue. The statues and water features in the gardens are genuinely unlike anything else I have photographed, and the late afternoon light along the riverside is particularly magical for couple portraits.
