This Grade II listed Edwardian building in the heart of Marylebone has been celebrating love stories for over a hundred years and honestly, the moment you walk up those steps and see those columns, you understand why couples keep choosing it. I have photographed a wedding here and it is one of those venues that never gets old.
What Makes Old Marylebone Town Hall So Special
There are not many places in London where you can say Paul McCartney, Liam Gallagher and Claudia Winkelman all got married in the same building, but that is exactly the kind of venue Old Marylebone Town Hall is. Moreover, it is not just the history that makes it special. The building was fully refurbished and reopened in 2018, and every one of the seven ceremony rooms has its own distinct personality. Some are grand and wood-panelled, others are light, modern and airy. The neoclassical facade with its Corinthian columns is one of the most photographed exteriors in London, and for good reason.
The Seven Ceremony Rooms
This is where Old Marylebone Town Hall really stands out. You are not limited to one space. Additionally, each of the seven rooms is named after a neighbourhood within the borough of Westminster, and each one suits a completely different kind of wedding. The Westminster Room is the largest, with dark wood panelling and capacity for up to 100 guests. The Knightsbridge Room has a sophisticated grey palette and seats up to 30. The Mayfair Room is bright and minimal, also for up to 30 guests. The Pimlico Room is modern and light for up to 20. The Soho Room has a relaxed, almost living-room feel with velvet sofas for up to 20. The Marylebone Room is intimate and dramatic with a carved fireplace for up to 12. The Paddington Room is the smallest and most private, for up to 8 guests. Whatever the size of your celebration, there is a room here that fits.
Why I Love Photographing Here
As a London wedding photographer, Old Marylebone Town Hall gives me so much to work with. Furthermore, the exterior steps and columns are incredible for portraits. That classical architecture creates images that feel timeless rather than dated. The light in the Mayfair and Soho rooms is beautiful for ceremony photography, while the wood-panelled rooms have a drama and warmth that comes through in every frame. And the surrounding streets of Marylebone, the Georgian townhouses, the quiet garden squares, the boutiques along Marylebone High Street, make the whole neighbourhood feel like a backdrop designed for a wedding day.
